Just a little about me. I grew up in south Florida, still have lots of roots there and visit often. I see the tropical come through in my paintings sometimes. About 31 years ago my husband and I moved to the beautiful state of Washington. First in Longview and for the last 28 years in Everett, just north of Seattle. After 30 years in the Postal Service, my husband and I are enjoying the art of retirement. As the kids grew up and started to spread their wings, I found myself with enough time to pursue an outlet for my creative talent. I grew up around painting. My mother was an artist in her time. She worked in lots of mediums, lastly in watercolors. We never got to paint together, something I always wanted to do. I chose to explore watercolors as a painting medium, challenging and stimulating myself to learn how to use the white of the paper and keep my colors bright and appealing. Thus began my journey through the school of "Learn As You Go". Then about 6 years ago I found a wonderful couple Robert and Sharon Long, who showed me how to paint in the world of 'Watercolor Realism'. It taught me so much about how to see warm and cool, light and dark, to pick up details and even know why something isn't working. I am exploring some new areas now, and doing so with a confidence I may not have had without learning "how to see first". |
